ADR-0010: This repository is the template; ventures are created in clones

  • Status: Superseded by ADR-0011 · Date: 2026-05-30

Context

Recurring pressure (incl. the second 360, finding F-1) reads the absence of a running venture here as a defect — “inject an ideation spec, ship a slice of docs/concept.md.” That misreads the repo’s purpose.

Decision

This repo is the reusable GitHub template (the ideator · incubator · builder · operator scaffolding). A venture is started in a clone — created via “Use this template” / scripts/new-repo.sh, then entered through a GR-5 entry point (injected ideation spec or direct chat) in that clone. Therefore:

  • This repo stays venture-free. docs/concept.md and history/chronicle.md here are exemplars, replaced per clone (see TEMPLATE.md).
  • The template’s “output” is instantiation quality — how cleanly a clone spins up and runs the Standard Flow — not a venture shipped here.
  • Reviews/critiques that say “start the venture in this repo” are out of scope by design; evaluate this repo on template quality instead.

Consequences

Superseded: ADR-0011 declares this a real instantiated project. The template scaffolding (TEMPLATE.md, scripts/new-repo.sh) remains intact for creating new repos.

  • Do not seed Ideate or build a specific venture in this repo.
  • Keep the instantiation path excellent and truthful: TEMPLATE.md, scripts/new-repo.sh, the {{PROJECT_NAME}}/{{PRINCIPAL}} placeholders, the ideation-spec contract (specs/), and the carried-over scaffolding.
  • Future external reviews should be scoped to the template (or run inside a real clone) to avoid re-raising F-1.
